Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about oak weight.
How to Calculate
To calculate oak weight, measure your lumber's **length** (in feet), **width** (in inches), and **thickness** (in inches). Select whether you're using red oak or white oak, as they have different densities. The calculator converts your dimensions to cubic feet, then multiplies by the appropriate density: **red oak at 47 lb/ft³** or **white oak at 52 lb/ft³**. If you have multiple boards, enter the quantity to get the total weight. This is especially useful for planning transportation, structural load calculations, or material cost estimates.
Formula & Method
Weight = Volume × Density
Volume (ft³) = (Length in feet × Width in inches × Thickness in inches) ÷ 144
Red Oak: Weight = Volume × 47 lb/ft³
White Oak: Weight = Volume × 52 lb/ft³
