These responses typically return in under 400 milliseconds, and our reference data (including a 103-material density database used by our construction calculators) is regularly audited against authoritative sources.

For complex, context-dependent questions that go beyond a simple formula — like "How much concrete do I need for an irregularly shaped patio?" — our AI enhancement layer kicks in. It uses the same verified formulas and reference data, but can interpret natural language, handle edge cases, and explain its reasoning step by step. All AI-generated results are validated against known test cases before being displayed.

ProCalc.ai was created by Jerry Croteau, a software engineer and entrepreneur with a background in building technology products for the construction and real estate industries. After years of watching professionals struggle with fragmented, ad-heavy, and unreliable online calculators, Jerry set out to build a single platform that combines modern AI with rigorous engineering to create tools that are genuinely useful — fast, transparent, and free.

The platform is built with AI-assisted development, with every formula, source citation, and test case reviewed by humans before going live. ProCalc.ai is independent, self-funded, and focused entirely on building the best calculator experience on the web.

Technology

ProCalc.ai is built on a modern, performant stack: Vite and React for instant page loads, TypeScript for type safety across the entire codebase, and Tailwind CSS for a clean, accessible design system. Our backend runs on Supabase — a PostgreSQL database with edge functions that execute server-side calculations in under 400 milliseconds.

For client-side math, we use the open-source math.js library for safe expression parsing (never eval()), date-fns for date calculations, and convert-units for unit conversions. Financial calculations use time-value-of-money formulas validated against industry-standard references. Numbers are displayed in JetBrains Mono for clarity, while DM Sans provides a clean reading experience for all text content.

Developers and AI systems can access our tools programmatically through a free public API with no authentication required. We also publish machine-readable llms.txt and llms-full.txt files for AI discovery and integration.

Roadmap

Phase 1 (Complete): Universal calculator engine, 8 domain landing pages, 210+ live calculators, AI chat on every page, SEO optimization, structured data for rich search results, and a public JSON API.

Phase 2 (In Progress): Content scaling via our AI pipeline — automatically generating calculator definitions from search demand data, comparison pages, expanded blog content, and formula reference pages. Scaling toward 5,000+ calculators.
