Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about drywall weight.
How to Calculate
Enter the number of drywall sheets and select the thickness (1/4", 3/8", 1/2", or 5/8"). The calculator uses standard weights for 4×8 foot sheets: **1/4" = 38 lbs**, **3/8" = 44 lbs**, **1/2" = 54 lbs**, **5/8" = 74 lbs**. These weights are based on typical gypsum board density and include the paper facing. The total weight helps you plan transportation, determine how many helpers you need, and ensure you don't overload vehicle or floor capacity during storage.
Formula & Method
Total Weight = Number of Sheets × Weight per Sheet
Standard 4×8 sheet weights: - 1/4" drywall: 38 lbs/sheet - 3/8" drywall: 44 lbs/sheet - 1/2" drywall: 54 lbs/sheet - 5/8" drywall: 74 lbs/sheet
