Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about cherry weight.
How to Calculate
To calculate cherry lumber weight, measure the length, width, and thickness of your boards, then multiply them together to get volume in cubic feet. Multiply the volume by cherry's density (35 lb/ft³) and by the quantity of boards. The formula is: **Weight = Length × Width × Thickness × Density × Quantity**. Remember to convert all dimensions to feet first (divide inches by 12). For rough estimates, you can also use board feet: a 1" × 12" × 12" piece equals one board foot and weighs about 2.9 pounds.
Formula & Method
Weight (lbs) = Length (ft) × Width (ft) × Thickness (ft) × 35 lb/ft³ × Quantity
Alternatively: Weight (lbs) = Board Feet × 2.92 lb/BF
Where Board Feet = (Length in inches × Width in inches × Thickness in inches) / 144
