Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about dog years.
How to Calculate
Enter your dog's age in years and select their size category (small: under 20 lbs, medium: 21-50 lbs, large: 51-90 lbs, giant: over 90 lbs). The calculator uses veterinary-backed formulas that account for accelerated aging in the first two years, then apply size-adjusted rates for subsequent years. Small dogs age more slowly after maturity (~4 human years per dog year) while giant breeds age faster (~7 human years per dog year).
Formula & Method
First year = 15 human years, Second year = +9 human years (total 24). Subsequent years: Small dogs +4 years/year, Medium dogs +5 years/year, Large dogs +6 years/year, Giant dogs +7 years/year. Formula: Human Age = 24 + (dog_age - 2) × size_factor
